Is Brixadi Right for You?

Brixadi is an ideal option if you are seeking a flexible, medication-assisted treatment for Opioid Use Disorder that fits your specific lifestyle and recovery stage. Unlike other injectable treatments, Brixadi can be initiated immediately upon starting buprenorphine without requiring weeks of prior stabilization on daily films or tablets, and it offers both weekly and monthly dosing schedules tailored to your needs. It is particularly well-suited for individuals who want to eliminate daily dosing hassles, desire discreet administration options in multiple injection sites, or need adaptable scheduling as they transition through different phases of recovery. Consulting with your healthcare provider will help determine if Brixadi’s customizable framework aligns with your treatment goals.

How it Works

Brixadi leverages advanced FluidCrystal® injection technology to transform from a low-viscosity liquid into a fluid, protective gel depot immediately upon subcutaneous injection. Administered by a healthcare professional in areas like the abdomen, thigh, buttock, or upper arm, this depot steadily releases buprenorphine into your system at a smooth, predictable rate over either one week or one month. This continuous release satisfies the brain’s opioid receptors to consistently block cravings and prevent physical withdrawal symptoms without the sharp peaks and troughs of daily sublingual medications. Because it comes in a variety of low-to-high dosage strengths and flexible schedules, Brixadi maintains steady neurochemical stability while seamlessly adjusting to your medical progress.

FAQs

What is Brixadi and how does it work?

Brixadi is a long-acting subcutaneous injection of buprenorphine that uses advanced FluidCrystal® technology. Once injected by a healthcare provider, the liquid immediately transforms into a small gel depot under the skin. This depot slowly and continuously releases buprenorphine over the course of one week or one month, satisfying the brain’s opioid receptors to effectively block cravings and prevent withdrawal symptoms without daily medication.

No extensive stabilization period is required. Patients who are not currently taking buprenorphine only need to receive a single test dose of a sublingual buprenorphine product (such as 4 mg of Suboxone) to confirm tolerance before receiving their first weekly Brixadi injection. Patients already stabilized on daily buprenorphine can transition directly to either the weekly or monthly Brixadi formulation.

Brixadi is administered exclusively by a certified healthcare professional as a subcutaneous (under the skin) injection into the abdomen, thigh, buttock, or upper arm. Because of the risk of serious harm if administered improperly (such as intravenously), Brixadi is supplied directly to healthcare facilities through a restricted REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy) program and cannot be picked up at a retail pharmacy for self-injection.

Brixadi utilizes a low-volume liquid formulation, meaning the depot formed under the skin is significantly smaller than other monthly injections. While you or your provider may feel a small gel depot at the injection site, it is generally discreet and gradually dissolves completely over time. You should avoid rubbing or massaging the injection site after receiving your dose.
